MODEC Ghana

FPSO MV21 Kwame Nkrumah, Offshore Ghana

The FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV21 is situated in approximately 1,100 metres water depth on the Jubilee Field, which is one of the largest oil fields discovered offshore West Africa in the past 10 years. It is operated by MODEC on behalf of Tullow Oil.

The FPSO is capable of processing more than 120,000 barrels of oil per day, and injecting more than 230,000 barrels of water per day and 160 MMscfd of produced gas. The FPSO is designed to remain on the field for up to 20 years.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

As part of a larger offshore accommodation welfare improvement programme, MODEC planned to upgrade the fifty one existing cabins and wet units within the offshore living quarters on the FPSO. The existing cabin furniture was outdated steel constructed bunks and lockers. The personnel experienced high levels of noise disturbance when trying to relax or sleep in their accommodation and part of the brief ICE were given included reducing or eradicating this problem.

THE SOLUTION

SOUND PROOFING
To reduce the noise transfer between cabins, ICE installed new 25mm B15 wall lining panels on to the face of existing partition walls with an insulation slab overlay fitted above the ceiling tiles.

FURNITURE
The bespoke cabin furniture supplied and fitted was FR core MDF laminated with impact edging. This gave a modern, less institutional, feel to the rooms and further reduced the sound transfer between cabins. Our designs included double and single bunks with storage, storage lockers and cabin desks.

WET UNITS
The existing wet units were retained and upgraded to include a new entrance B15 door, with the walls overclad with Altro hygienic cladding where required. Each wet unit was equipped with a new mirrored vanity unit, shower, and the existing tiled floors were deep cleaned and re-grouted. This provided a new look and improved facilities within the budget constraints of the project.

CABIN FLOORING
All existing cabin floors were re-screeded and a new heavy duty marine grade vinyl floor covering installed.

THE TEAM

The project was completed by our offshore team. This included a project supervisor, three joiners, a plumber and an electrician, working in a back-to-back team over a five-month period.

THE OUTCOME

The work completed on schedule, within budget with no health and safety incidents.
